Chembassador Chemistry Outreach

UBC Chembassador Chemistry Outreach engages learners through laboratory experiments at UBCO, hands-on kitchen chemistry activities, open house events, and explosive live-action demonstrations.

Computer Science Outreach

Computer Science faculty members and students lead various outreach events that provide hands-on learning experiences with programming and non-screen coding techniques.

iSTAND (integrative STEM Team Advancing Networks of Diversity)

iSTAND at UBCO hosts spring break camps, summer camps, and individual classroom visits in which Grade K-7 students will participate in hands-on activities and encounter design challenges focused on neuroscience, coding, robotics, and broad sciences inclusive of health and health technologies to introduce youth to a variety of STEM concepts and disciplines. In addition to formalized youth outreach programs, iSTAND also supports Science Odyssey Week.

Let’s Talk Science Outreach

Let’s Talk Science Outreach at UBCO is a program connecting educators and youth with outstanding volunteers to deliver a wide variety of meaningful STEM activities for children as young as three years old and youth up to Grade 12.

School of Engineering

School of Engineering at UBCO hosts a variety of programs to foster skills in the applied sciences, develop a love of learning and exploration, and build teamwork capabilities.

UBC Geering Up Engineering Outreach

The Geering Up program at UBCO largely supports engineering, with a back drop to broad science. Geering Up offers innovative and hands-on STEM Summer Camps, Spring Break Camps, After-School Clubs, Day Events, In-School Workshops, Teacher Professional Development, and supplementary outreach to support Science Literacy Week.

Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Mentoring Program

The WiSE Mentoring Program at UBCO was developed to support students as they start to build their careers. Students find mentoring invaluable, but mentors also experience rich and sometimes unexpected benefits.

iSTAND (integrative STEM Team Advancing Networks of Diversity)

iSTAND works closely with profit and not-for-profit partners to bring engaging and informative sessions to academic and non-academic STEM professionals, and develop strategies to ensure regional opportunities for women and other underrepresented persons in STEM fields. Activities focus on teacher engagement for optimizing strategies for all learners, promoting integration and increasing retention rates of women in STEM fields, both within and outside academia. Computer Science Outreach

June 2020: Launch of our computational thinking website. Computational thinking skills are a crucial part of problem solving, scientific inquiry, and coding. Nowadays, there are a lot of research prototypes and commercial products that promote computational thinking. From a teacher’s or a parent’s perspective, how should we choose which resource is best for our children? At UBCO, we launched a website in May 2020 to help guide interested parents and teachers in understanding the different aspects of computational thinking. A key feature of this site is our ongoing evaluation of existing non-screen exercises, toys, and technologies so that our website readers can make more informed choices. Please visit our website and send us feedback!
